it may be true in some cases but sometimes when style matters are against our principes or values we can't swim with the current

I completely agree, in fact, if we are interested in the questions of style, the style is always changeable in time and circumstances varied of way of life but the principal questions remains unchangeable because are the base of our moral sense.

Montreal open city
I wanna share with you one of my preferable way of meeting people (talking English/French) : The University of the Streets Café.
The University of the Streets Café creates gathering places for community members to pursue lifelong learning and engagement in the form of collective discussions. They are an opportunity for people of diverse backgrounds and socio-economic realities to meet, where all people and perspectives are welcome.
The next Upcoming Events is entitled: Montreal open city
About the discussion
This is a work in progress. A group of citizens from different fields (technology, civic engagement, environmentalist, urban planners, artist, etc...) are gathering to discuss how to go about bringing members of the community together to imagine how an 'open city' should look like and organize to make it happen.
The University of the Streets is taking part of this imagining process as for us an open city is a learning community where people share knowledge, information and ideals of the space the want to live in.
If you are interested in being part of this please visit the website: http://www.villeouverte.ca
Montreal an open city: sharing information for a vibrant and healthy community.
What if?
* You could access information of future developments in your neighborhood?
* You could easily find out your daily environmental footprint or monitor the ecological health of your burrough?
* You could know how many 'cafes' there are in your neighborhood as you go about planning your new business venture?
* You could learn the main concerns of your neighbors as you intend to present your candidacy to the next election?
In a nut shell, what if you could access the information to act upon the dreams and ideals you have for your city, your community and yourself within them.
Why?
Information is the basic component for knowledge, learning, adaptation and consequent action. Within a democratic society; open, self-regulated, free exchange and access to information fosters civic engagement, cooperation and healthy community economic development nurturing a vibrant culturally rich environment. The above beholds the promise of empowering everyone (citizens, organizations, businesses and institutions) to better act in any and every area that concerns their welfare, well-being and self-actualization.
What?
The required tools and policies need to be in place to share information more effectively, transparently and universally accessible for every member of our society.
How?
Through an open and self-managing event 'Montreal's democracy camp' welcomes 60 active members of our community to reflect, imagine and organize towards the innovation of tools and policies to better share and use information.

* Que vous puissiez connaître le nombre de cafés dans votre quartier afin de planifier vos rencontres d’affaires…

Re: BOARD IN ENGLISH
First of all I really thank you so much Lion69 for your contributions ; Let me suggest some corrections :
thank Especially for kabi and all our friends
who have already expressed their point (without adding " of them " because you used "their".. it's a redundancy on the phrasal )
this word don't need the " S " at the end:
I found difficults : the pluriel is difficulties
you know this search and looking for explanation (or explaining) the expressions _ improve our vocabulary (without using the personal subject " it " )

It was constructive and funny
Me and dear MEA were like swimming in English area with new people that we met during this wonderful conversation-meeting.
It began by introduction, The moderator Marc NISBET explain the rule and the theme, then the guest Mr. George Balas (a Hungarian writer) began his speech by some parts of his novel he has a rich and varied history, including its indigenous, educational, and family history. As he explained : stories have helped teach, influence, and bind people together.
People around were happy to listen about the grandfather of Mr. George Balas who has explained that it's better to repair the fabulous knife than to buy a new one, it's like an heritage of a history by leaving for him the same knife , at the end he showed us this particular knife, that was amazing !!
He explained that sharing such stories humanize strangers and those different from us and foster empathy, human connections, relationships , and moreover, it open minds and hearts.
Time to time there was some volunteer who helped an old handicapped ladies to eat .. that was so human !!!
After that some person take the speech so as to share and use thoughtful, meaningful fiction and stories from their stories and own experience and that of other people they know.
Younes told us a story while he was in morocco during his experience as technician of computer , he had the duty to learn to a group of person that had used dactylographic rather than PC , so Younes had the challenge to switch their old knowledge to a new one , but the problem is that the group is constituted by 50 old ladies (from 40 to 55 years old ) .
The challenge was difficult because as everybody knows it's hard to make learn old people , and he get such answers :
Old Lady : tell me M. Younes how old are you?
Younes : I am 23 Madame.
Old Lady : So listen to me my dear, before you were born I was working in this company, so it's not to day that you are going to learn me how o work .
We laughed a lot .
But Younes learned from this story that we have during our life to deal with so much people from different age and educational environment so that influence attitudes, behaviour, cultural change and create a climate for unity within diversity .
Thank you Younes.

Re: BOARD IN ENGLISH
Then other people talked a lot and had a growing interest in the stories of various ethnic groups, of immigrants, first and second generation Americans, of Arabic and Lebanese Americans, of older people, of women, of any human beings who have lived or are living interesting lives, who have met challenges, who have made or are making notable contributions in their lives.
My point was about the fact that during the time of our grandfathers and grandmothers they were no TV no radio and no PC or internet .. so we met around a big table and our grandfathers and grandmothers tell us sweet and different stories … but nowadays child are focussing around all this technologies so I wonder how can we deal with our future grand-son.
As the Moderator Marc NISBET said :
" Sharing stories can help us to change us and our world for the better.
Because by sharing stories we can learn so much from asking good questions, sometimes tough questions, and really listening, with an open mind and heart. And we can learn from our own story analysis and sharing. Sometimes, when we hear our own words tumble out, whether in person or in print, we understand ourselves--or our families--or our business--or our organizations--or our communities--just a little better.
At the end we share some delicious foods and I talked to people and I had the opportunity to talked to Marc NISBEt for a future meeting with the ÉrableAtalas.
So for the people who are interested just prepare yourself for a sensational first English-meeting of "Érable d'atlas" in the soon future, it may may fill a quiet good evening during the week or week-end with a new event. You are likely to benefit from the presence of a new Canadians people. Most importantly, we will build a bridge of community members to teach and learn from one another, stimulating our own community's development and well being.

I did it my waaaaaaaaaaaaay
Salam guys;
it s a quick note just to say hi to all of you roomies and tell you guys don't be intimidated because of your english. Believe me your english is much better than most of quebecers i ve met during my stay in here. What we need is more self-confidence, don't forget we (moroccans) belong to a society known for its sarcasm, french culture inheritence unfortunately. And It is high time to get rid of our perfectionism.
I am not trying to drink your bath water, your washing machine water neither ( i like this idom kabi, it sounds funny) but that's what i found out as a substitute french teacher working in different schools in Montreal. I was even asked to substitute for an english teacher at a primary school. I ve never thought before that it could happen: me, substituting for an english teacher, are you kidding? Yes, but i did it even with lame english. You can do it too; just feel free to make mistakes cause it is a good way to learn.

your advises are very important
so they gives us energy and enthusiasm to learn this beautiful language
i agree with you that all people who has decided to learn englich he musn't be intimidated for alot of reasons:
1the first : englich is not our originel language but it's better for us to learn it
the second : learning englich is factor that it help us to unterstand the other and to know his cultur.
the third: it's a international language witch you find it at different sectors, trade economics politic scientific ....administration

the fourth : this language is teatched across the word for example in france: the french pilitician say that french must take a place as language in the world but more french people speaks englich and it's considered as the second laguage
therfore; why I tell to all guys to take advice donkichot seriously ;
especialy our freind who wait the visa it's time to improve your level in englich im 'a sure that it helps you when you arrive in canada at many domains communication looking for work...at work..
at the end i feel very hapy and proudly when i receive advices from someone whon encourage us to practise englich he push us to to develop our level an d enrich our vocabulry and cramma
.
the probleme is not to make mistake but the problen is not to unterstand the benefit of this language
on day i commite the mistake but after i get rid of it
you know my freind the knowledge doesn't come e at one time
i'am persuasive that practise and practise it's bridge for progress
